“And looking at them Jesus said to them, “With people this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26
Jesus is speaking here of the difficulty of attaining eternal life as a result of being a good person apart from His saving grace. It would require for a person to live a sinless life, and that is impossible. And this is why he died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins past, present, and future. Our sins were forgiven at Calvary, once and for all, for those who believe in Christ as Lord and Savior.
But what about us when we’re standing with Christ? Is it possible for us to do the same miracles that Jesus did? We are one with Christ, right?
A favorite story of mine is when Jesus Walks On The Water.
“Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “Oh you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.
Peter was clearly called according to God’s purpose. Jesus said; “Come” And Peter did walk on the water for a moment. Why was he unable to make it all the way? Why did he begin to sink? The fact is that Peter took his eyes off of Jesus and immediately became afraid of the boisterous wind and the water. In our own strength, we are no match for the things of the world. Peter’s love for Christ was lacking. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.” 1 John 4:18
We might think we have things all figured out, but as humans, in the end we are only dust in the wind. My good friend once said to me, “when I die, I’m dirt” and without Christ he is absolutely correct. In fact, we all turn to dirt when death comes. But with Christ we are reborn of the Spirit and a new spiritual being has become a reality, one with meaning and a purpose.
And men like to challenge God with; “show me and I will believe.” We only need to listen to Jesus’ words to Peter; “Oh you of little faith, why did you doubt?” and also to His response to the devil. Jesus said to him, “It is written again, ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.” Matthew 4:7
Jesus is all Powerful. When we love God and are called according to His purpose we will be faithful. And His power always will work for our good. And His miracles which are happening all around us every moment will become revealed to us.
All means All, and that’s all All means.
