Every day people worry about a million different things. And that is the goal of the forces of evil. But we only need to keep our minds and hearts focused on the Creator, and trust in the One who controls all things.
All of our worries will soon disappear.
“And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? And why are you worried about clothing? Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin, yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! Do not worry then, saying, ‘What will we eat?’ or ‘What will we drink?’ or ‘What will we wear for clothing?’ For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will care for itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.” Matthew 6:27-34
Life seems to be a never-ending cycle of high highs; and low lows. And most people are prone to worry – regardless. But Jesus makes the solution for worry clear: “seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” God has got you covered. When we worry we are saying to God; “I don’t trust you God.”
I choose to worry about me instead.
Most often we do this unconsciously, and that is why we need to consciously focus on Jesus, His Kingdom, and His righteousness. When believers see themselves as He sees them – as members of his eternal kingdom, all of the problems of the world are quickly brought into proper perspective. And His promise is that He will provide for all of our needs when we seek after His righteousness; rather acting as mere men.
The word “Gentiles” is used here as reference to all of those who are not God’s chosen people. Those who believe are right now, not only chosen, but they are called to be different:
“for they stumble because they are disobedient to the word, and to this doom they were also appointed. But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul. Keep your behavior excellent among the Gentiles” 1 Peter 2:8-12
And now, since we have received mercy, and because we can proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called us out of darkness and into His marvelous light, – what do we have to worry about? Not one thing at ALL. We are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession – here and now – every moment of every day – and in ALL circumstances.
And what does it mean to seek after His righteousness?
“Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep sober in spirit, fix your hope completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance, but like the Holy One who called you, be holy yourselves also in all your behavior; because it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy” 1 Peter 1:13-16
“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace.
In the world you have tribulation, but take courage;
I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
