“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
Fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs 1:7
What knowledge is guiding your life?
Are you following God’s eternal truth, or the teachings of the world?
The challenge is that all that is of the world is temporary, but the Word of the Lord is eternal. Is your thinking guided by Man’s Viewpoint; or God’s Divine Viewpoint? “All flesh is like grass, And all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, And the flower falls off, But the word of the Lord endures forever.” 1 Peter 1:24-25
These verses speak to the heart of man’s ongoing challenge. Man’s knowledge and teachings apart from God are out of context with God’s eternal plan. And for many, a healthy “fear of the Lord” is just not there at our beginning of knowledge — therefore we are programmed to lose. We must be not conformed to the world, but rather transformed by the renewing of our minds.
But someone might say; “this is the age of grace, and I’m saved by grace, so I have no reason to fear God. And I’m forgiven and free now to make my own choices.” More commonly, people claim to be following Jesus; but in reality they just unconsciously follow their education, feelings, and logic.
Believers are secure in Christ eternally; and once we believe, we are free to choose wisdom or foolishness – our old way of thinking or God’s new way. And prior to Christ, most everything we have learned is either man’s way of thinking or perhaps on a good day – God’s Truth compromised by man’s thinking.
“Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you thinks that he is wise in this age, he must become foolish, so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, “He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness”; and again, “The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are useless.” So then let no one boast in men.” 1 Corinthians 3:18-21
An atheist once said to me; “if what you teach about grace is true Bob, then I will simply say the prayer, and then just do whatever I please.”
Barbara, I replied; “I wouldn’t do that if I were you. I just don’t have the courage to defy God. Please read the next verse. Now, if God is real, and you are saved by grace eternally as God promises, Which “you” is God saying He will destroy?”
“If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. — Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.” 1 Corinthians 3:15-17
But wait you might say; “God promises to never leave us or forsake us and that God causes all things to work together for good for those who love Him. How can He destroy the one He loves?”
Yes, that’s true but Jesus also says that if you love me obey my commands. And when we acknowledge Jesus as the all-knowing, all-powerful, always-present Creator of all things — only a fool, or an unbeliever would decide to defiantly go and do whatever we choose. We have no reason to be scared of God, unless of course we defy, or disregard Him.
The beginning of eternal Truth and knowledge is when we test all of the teachings of men and the world up against God’s Word. And this is where the rub comes. Because men’s natural tendency is to read God’s word and reject it because from a human point of view, feelings, or what the want to do it doesn’t make sense.
And God and His truth have been banned from public school teaching. Do you see the problem? Simply begin with the creation or evolution question. And then you can also follow that same process with abortion, man-made climate change, homosexuality, trans-sexuality, lying, stealing, and all other issue where God instructs. In fact our public system is based upon teaching void of God and miracles. But our God is a God of absolute statements, promises, and never-ending miracles.
The world’s teaching establishes a foundation that rejects God and His truth, and replaces with the teachings of men. And the truth is; “For the wisdom of this world is foolishness before God. For it is written, He is the one who catches the wise in their craftiness; and again, The Lord knows the reasonings of the wise, that they are useless. So then let no one boast in men.”
The pull of our old nature and the forces of this world are strong, but we have victory, wisdom, knowledge, and understanding through Jesus our Lord. “I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do” … What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body that is subject to death? Thanks be to God, who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord! … Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit who gives life has set you free from the law of sin and death. Romans 7:15-8:2
Our worldview makes all the difference between what we will absolutely believe and what we will absolutely deny.
But as Judge Robert Bork once wrote; “the world is Slouching Towards Gomorrah” What do you choose — wisdom or foolishness – your old ways of thinking, or God’s ways of wisdom and Truth?
Do you see a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope for a fool than for him. Proverbs 26:12
