Why is Easter the most important day of the year for Christians?
Can we be certain that our sins are forgiven forever?
“Christ redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us—for it is written; Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree— in order that in Christ Jesus the blessing of Abraham might come to the Gentiles, so that we would receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed.”
“Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor. For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free man, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s descendants, heirs according to promise.” Galatians 3:13-29
Our forgiveness was secured forever by Jesus on the cross at Calvary. And we are no longer under the law, but rather we are redeemed and justified — forgiven because of His victory over death. Because we believe in Jesus, we have been born again, have received the promise of the Holy Spirit, and His free gift of eternal life. Our victory over sin is by, because of, and through Jesus. And it is not a result of anything that we’ve done beyond believing in Jesus.
His gift is always and forever, and will never end. “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39
For those who believe – Jesus has forgiven our sins past, present, and future. We are new people. We were once dead in our sin, but we are now alive in Christ. “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.” John 5:24
Jesus made this truth clear early on, when He said; “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” – and also; “Jesus answered; Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you, You must be born again. The wind blows where it wishes and you hear the sound of it, but do not know where it comes from and where it is going; so is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
And “As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life. For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life. For God did not send the Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world might be saved through Him. He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:3; 5-8; 14-18
Some logically believe that in order to be forgiven and receive eternal life, we must do good deeds and no longer sin; but scripture clearly teaches otherwise. Only unbelievers are judged unworthy apart from Christ. Our redemption and justification was accomplished by Jesus on the cross, once for all sin – and we became heirs to God’s promise – the instant we believed in Jesus.
Does this mean we can now do whatever we wish? No – God will not be mocked. The consequences are severe. “Do you not know that you are a temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? If any man destroys the temple of God, God will destroy him, for the temple of God is holy, and that is what you are.” 1 Corinthians 3:16-17 – and “For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.” Eph 2:10
But finally please note – there is only one condition for forgiveness.
“and after he brought them out, he said; Sirs, what must I do to be saved? They said, Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:30-31
Easter is most important because Jesus was victorious over death, and we who believe are Heirs who share in His resurrection and God’s free gift of Eternal Life.
Be encouraged – believe in Jesus today, and be saved – forever.
All Means All and that’s all All means.
Grace and Peace to you my friends,
