A Promise For All

Have some people done bad things to such a degree —
that they can never be forgiven?

“Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.” Now when they heard this, they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.” And with many other words he testified and exhorted them, saying, “Be saved from this perverse generation.” Then those who gladly received his word were baptized; and that day about three thousand souls were added to them. Acts:2:36-41

Peter’s listeners were greatly troubled when they heard this truth.
“God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”

Now ask yourself these questions:
Have I made Jesus the center of my life?
Is He truly alive to me, guiding me, teaching me, and leading me?
Am I standing with Jesus against this perverse generation?
Is God leading you – yesterday, today, and tomorrow —
Or are you leading you?
If you asked these questions to those who know you best —
what would they say?

The people quickly realized they had a problem and asked; “Men and brethren, what shall we do?” And Peter replied; “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Remission is defined as: the cancellation of a debt, charge, or penalty; and forgiveness, pardoning, absolution, and exoneration. There are no conditions here to receive God’s free gift.

This gift is freely given to all who believe.

By repent here Peter was saying they needed a changed mind and a new understanding of God’s Truth. The water baptism is an outward public expression of their new inward understanding, belief, and commitment to Jesus as Lord and Savior. It is not required to receive the gift. The promise here is the gift of the Holy Spirit Our teacher and guide – the Spirit of Truth who abides in us the moment we believe, and are born again of the Spirit.

So the question is – are some too far gone to be forgiven? And what about the unpardonable sin, some me might ask? I am convinced that there is only one unpardonable sin and that is the rejection of God, The Holy Spirit, and Jesus Christ. Now Peter included everyone in the promise here when he said; “For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

And Jesus made this clear also; “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.” John 3:16-19

He wants to forgive and pardon everyone. He did not come and die on the cross to judge us; but rather to forgive all. But many freely choose to reject God’s free gift and instead follow lust, pride, and worldly logic.

All can freely receive forgiveness and eternal life.
Believe Jesus is Lord ans Savior and you will be saved.

Our call is to live for Christ and to love others as Christ loved us. And to continually stand upon His eternal Truth in all things – and not only when it’s convenient.

God’s gift is A Promise For All.
And we must pray that God will open the eyes of the spiritually blind that God has placed in our circle of influence – so that they can see the Truth and Believe and Receive the Holy Spirit.

Grace and Peace to you my friends,
