ARE ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY CERTAIN YOU WILL GO TO HEAVEN?
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation (born again of the Spirit) – old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17
“He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.” This famous quote by missionary Jim Elliott was found in his diary shortly after he was killed by the natives who murdered him. But — Is this teaching true? And are you certain you will go to heaven when you die? And once you are a believer can you lose your salvation by doing wrong things? Have you given up what you cannot keep to gain what you cannot lose? This is a most important question for all of us to answer.
But my experience has been that many believers think they might get to Heaven, but they have no assurance. And many Christians and their religions teach and believe they can lose their salvation. And also that nobody can really know for certain until judgement day.
How could anyone know for certain? I believe that everything Jesus said is Truth. And all of His Holy Word is Truth whether we understand it or not. So unless God lied, and a Holy God cannot lie. — I am certain that I will go to heaven.
How can this be? Am I arrogant? No – I am standing on His promises and NOT my own understanding, logic, and feelings. His promises and the Holy Spirit will guide me all the days of my life.
Jesus said: “Do not be amazed that I said to you – “You must be born again.” John 3:3 … and “He who believes in Him is not judged; he who does not believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” John 3:18 and Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14:6 And we also have a guarantee from God. “And who has also put his seal on us and given us his Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.” 2 Corinthians 1:22
I am redeemed (past tense) by the blood of the lamb. And my eternal redemption occurred the moment I believed and was born again and received His guarantee of the Holy Spirit to guide me. “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace.” Ephesians 1:7
And Jesus said; “I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.” John 10:28
But we are also called to test all things. Some will say; “Jesus also said the worst four words anyone could ever hear.; “I never knew you.” Does Jesus contradict Himself: when He says: “Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter. Many will say to Me on that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name cast out demons, and in Your name perform many miracles? And then I will declare to them, I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness.” Matthew 7:21-23
“All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, But the Lord weighs the spirits.” (motives of the heart) Pro 16:2
“I never knew you” are the most horrible words anyone could ever hear. What is the mistake of those who Jesus rejects? Do they still have a log in their eye? Did they disregard the narrow road and take the popular broad road instead? Did they build their house on the rock; or upon sand? But His Holy way is clear; “and He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf.”
But what did they do – those who Jesus rejects? Did they continually disregard the counsel of God’s Truth and the Holy Spirit, and did they not follow the law of Christ? But instead rationalized and mixed in the teachings of the world, and then followed their logic, feelings, lust, and pride? Is it not idolatry when one actually follows and lives for self — and even while proclaiming Christ?
And how can we know the will of our Father that Jesus speaks of here? Listen! Jesus clearly tells us.
“For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who looks on the Son and believes in him should have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.” John 6:40
“Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. The saying is trustworthy, for: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he also will deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful— for he cannot deny himself. 2 Timothy 2:10-13
And now how about a more personal check up. Where is your heart centered? On the teachings and wisdom of men; or upon the wisdom of God. Is your heart set on winning in the world; or upon winning others for Christ’s eternal kingdom? When was the last time you tested what you stand for up against God’s eternal truth. Are you listening to God; or men and yourself? Only those on the narrow path are the true disciples of Christ.
And “No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.” Matthew 6:24 Who and what do you serve? You cannot stand on the side of the line with lawlessness, lying, self-centeredness, riots, looting, stealing, abortion, scheming, anarchy, all forms of amorality and evil; and be following Jesus at the same time.
Narrow or broad road – It’s time to choose.
So, are you certain now … or not? Have you given up what he cannot keep — to gain that which you cannot lose? Believe In Jesus and Trust In Him and Him Alone.
“As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up; so that whoever believes will in Him have eternal life.” John 3:14-15
“And the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.” 1 John 5:11-13
