Nevertheless, the firm foundation of God stands, having this seal, “The Lord knows those who are His,” and, “Everyone who names the name of the Lord is to abstain from wickedness.” Now in a large house there are not only gold and silver vessels, but also vessels of wood and of earthenware, and some to honor and some to dishonor. Therefore, if anyone cleanses himself from these things, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified, useful to the Master, prepared for every good work. Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. 2 Timothy 2:19-22
Why is spiritual growth so difficult? With the things of the Spirit, the more you know … the more you realize there is so much more that you don’t know? And that is the paradox with spiritual truth. There is no end to the depths of His wisdom. And God is constantly working on us during our desert experiences pruning away the old. And when your prayer life seems to lose its power and you become discouraged. Jesus still hears every word, and He views every thought and action. And when everything seems to go wrong all at once. He is walking before us and behind us.
“O Lord, You have searched me and known me. You know when I sit down and when I rise up; You understand my thought from afar. You scrutinize my path and my lying down, And are intimately acquainted with all my ways. Even before there is a word on my tongue, Behold, O Lord, You know it all. You have enclosed me behind and before, And laid Your hand upon me. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; It is too high, I cannot attain to it. Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence? If I ascend to heaven, You are there; If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there. If I take the wings of the dawn, If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea, Even there Your hand will lead me, And Your right hand will lay hold of me. If I say, “Surely the darkness will overwhelm me, And the light around me will be night,” Even the darkness is not dark to You, And the night is as bright as the day. Darkness and light are alike to You. For You formed my inward parts; You wove me in my mother’s womb. Psalm 139:1-12
Faith grows stronger in the face of this present darkness.
Jesus has been watching over you and me every instant since he formed us in our mother’s womb. He knows our every thought, our brightest and our darkest moments. Whatever it is – God knows it all, and regardless of all of that He loves us beyond all that we can imagine.
It’s only natural to wonder – “what is God’s plan for me in all of this?” But there’s no need to fear or to worry. “The Lord knows those who are His” and we are “vessels for honor” His plan is for Jesus to live in and through us as we pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace from a pure heart. And what can be better than that? He will never leave us or forsake us. Eternal life – It is finished, but we cannot see the end result yet. We must only trust in Him and rest in Him. Victory over our old self is also complete – It is also finished, defeated on the cross at calvary. We are more than conquerors in Him who loves us.
God’s saints are being prepared for every good work. And the things of the spirit are infinite. There is no room for that which dishonors where righteousness walks and talks and lives. And what are your youthful lusts? “For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.” 1 John 2:16-17
The way up is down. And the promise is “forever” The old must make way for the new. Feeling lonely and under attack? There is nothing new under the sun. David provides understanding in dealing with our desert experiences. We need to focus on the truth God gave him. Jesus will deliver us just as He did David.
The secret of the Lord is for those who fear Him, And He will make them know His covenant. My eyes are continually toward the Lord, For He will pluck my feet out of the net. Turn to me and be gracious to me, For I am lonely and afflicted. The troubles of my heart are enlarged; Bring me out of my distresses. Look upon my affliction and my trouble, And forgive all my sins. Look upon my enemies, for they are many, And they hate me with violent hatred. Guard my soul and deliver me; Do not let me be ashamed, for I take refuge in You. Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, For I wait for You. Psalm 25:14-21
The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside quiet waters. He restores my soul; He guides me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You have anointed my head with oil; My cup overflows. Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life, And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever. Psalm 23
We must be mindful. We are being “prepared for every good work” for “all the days of my life” and the key word here is … “FOREVER” and >>>YOU<<< “Now flee from youthful lusts and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with those who call on the Lord from a pure heart.”
Grace and Peace to you my friends,
