“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being. In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
For faithful Christians, spiritual truth must be at the foundation of their life. And as this verse makes clear, Jesus brought all things into being and He is spiritual truth.
The darkness that did not comprehend it would include everyone who does not believe as well as those who believe, but have chosen to not follow the leading of the Holy Spirit as God’s word and His purpose for their life as is revealed to them.
This writing is for believers who want to be faithful, but at times feel as if they have lost their way. These Christians desire to truly believe as Paul said; “But we have the mind of Christ;” but it is evident that quite often they feel like “mere men” with beliefs that are no more than just another religion of men; they “do not accept the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised.” 1 Cor 2:14-15
There are specific reasons some get discouraged, and are filled with fear, worry, and unhappiness; filled with anger, doubts, rebellion, hate, sadness, and jealousy. They are envious, and filled with pride, lust, and every evil thing. But when they look around … others appear to stand above it all as they walk through life and have the mind of Christ.
So the question is: which believer best describes you? Or do you feel like a third person. Are you continually on a roller coaster with high highs, and low lows? Do you feel like a hypocrite as you continually fall back into your old ways, until you are rescued by the truth that is always there waiting for you?
Are your two natures still in conflict as Paul explains? “For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin. For what I am doing, I do not understand. For what I will to do, that I do not practice; but what I hate, that I do.” Rom 7:14-15 In other words; “I had devotions today and made a list of changes I need to make and not only did I NOT do it, I did exactly the opposite.” Are you stuck in this never-ending conflict for the remainder of your life on earth?
“I find then a law, that evil is present with me, the one who wills to do good. For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man. But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members. O wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord!” Rom 7:21-25
Thanks to Jesus, there is never-ending victory available to us every minute of every day over our old self and the ways of this fallen world. But the way to victory is not the old way or the way of the world. We can’t do it. Our mind and body are fallen. The old way is fallen. We must rest in Him and abide in His victory.
Do you want the mind of Christ? You already have it abiding with you forever. You only must believe, abide, and rest in Him.
“And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever — the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.” Jn 14:16-18
“These things I have spoken to you while being present with you. But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” Jn 14:25-27
“Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.” Jn 16:7
“These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” Jn 16:33
Grace and Peace to you my friends,
