This Present Darkness

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” Ephesians 6:11-12
“Who is our enemy?”
That’s the question a friend asked me just this morning. And then when speaking of the conflicts at our border she said; “Democrats seem not to care about American Citizens”
I know you might be thinking, why does Bob always seem to mix politics with religion? Well, on a personal level politicians playing politics have cost me millions, twice. But the truth is – I continually ask myself that same question; and God’s answer is clear to me – it’s because of the ongoing battle with “This Present Darkness” as described above. Politics is ugly and to be honest; I hate politics and most specifically “Identity Politics” which divides people into special interest groups for political gain. This practice is racism at its worst, and regardless of party I am convinced — it’s evil.
And as you can see in Ephesians and elsewhere we are called to put on our armor, stand against evil, and fight. So when some say to me; “why can’t you just remain silent, Bob?” The answer is simple. I Don’t want to hear Jesus say these words to me: “You hypocrites! You know how to interpret the appearance of earth and sky, but why do you not know how to interpret the present time? And why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?” (from wrong) Luke 12:56-57 Notice Jesus speaks to the “present” here in a way similar to This Present Darkness —
Jesus wants us to stand for that which is rightand fight against that which is wrong.
But we must make no mistake. This will not be easy. “Do you suppose that I came to grant peace on earth? I tell you, no, but rather division; for from now on five members in one household will be divided, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.” Luke 12:51-53
And for those who choose to stand with Jesus, we will not be at peace with the world and the teachings of the world. We are to take strong stands. – “This is My commandment, that you love one another, just as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends” John 15:11-12 Laying down your life for a friend is the strongest stand of all.
And the end result for disciples who choose to stand firm against the world will be: “If the world hates you, you know that it has hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own; but because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, because of this the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A slave is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you; if they kept My word, they will keep yours also.”
John 15:18-20
You see this is good versus evil; black or white ; truth or lies – we must stand. There is no room for those to whom Jesus says; “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot. So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. Because you say, “I am rich, and have become wealthy, and have need of nothing,” and you do not know that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked” Revelation 3:15-17
This Present Darkness is everywhere. And it’s like a cancer that attacks everyone. Rich and poor. Republican or Democrat? Christian or atheist? False religions? Cancer does not discriminate one way or the other – it wants us all. And such is the way with the forces of darkness.
Some might say, aren’t you going to talk about putting on the full armor of God? Yes but putting off evil comes first “put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness.” Ephesians 4:22-24
And we must always remember that Jesus has absolute authority over the evil one … “Then Jesus said to him, “Be gone, Satan! For it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve. Then the devil left him, and behold, angels came and were ministering to him.” Read: Matthew 4:1-11
We must Be Strong and Courageous
For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
Call out and confront the evil one in the name of Jesus Christ and the devel will flee you as well.
And angels will come minister to you.
Grace and Peace to you my friends,
