“Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God … that which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Do not be amazed that I said to you – You must be born again.” John 3:3,6-7
Why are some Christians happy, encouraging, and at peace while others seem to always be unhappy, discouraged, and fearful?
For Christians, the answer appears to be clear. Happiness is a state of mind. And God’s Truth is the key to our happiness. “Set your mind on the things above, not on the things that are on earth. For you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, is revealed, then you also will be revealed with Him in glory.” Col. 3:2-4
So how do you see yourself? Are you born again spiritually? Now, are you still following the flesh; or the newness of the Spirit? Have you; “set your mind on the things above, and “not on the things that are on earth?” Are you constantly focused on the problems of the world, and your failings and weaknesses; or is your mind focused on God’s promises and how He sees you? Do you think daily about God’s will – His plans, and purpose for your life?
How does God see you – here and now? As a disciple of Jesus? As a citizen of the US, or the world? Or are you an alien and stranger to the things of the world? Do you see yourself as a chosen race – royal, and holy in God’s sight?
Are you a disciple and ambassador for Christ? What’s an ambassador? “One sent as an official representative to a foreign land.”
Here is God’s view of you. “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, so that you may proclaim the excellencies of Him who has called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; for you once were not a people, but now you are the people of God; you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as aliens and strangers to abstain from fleshly lusts which wage war against the soul.” 1 Pet. 2:9-11
Do you want to be happy? The apostle Paul said it best; “for when I am weak, then I am strong”
What is God’s purpose and will for all of us? Ministers of reconciliation – of the gospel – the good news. Worldly problems and issues or people that cause us to focus elsewhere are only diversions that rob us of our happiness, peace and joy.
“For the love of Christ compels us … He died for all, so that they who live might no longer live for themselves, but for Him who died and rose again on their behalf. So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view … the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.” 2 Cor. 5:14-17
Spiritually – ambassadors and disciples have died to the old thinking, ways, fears, and priorities. They have a new foundation. They’re born again spiritually and following God’s Ways; “the love of Christ controls us” and “we no longer see others from a worldly point of view.” The Holy Spirit and God’s Word is our guide. The good news is our priority. We stand on God’s promises. Jesus is sovereign over all things.
Worldly problems and fears are to be continually given over to God in prayer. Stand on His promises. He is our peace, joy, and rest. Jesus is our happiness.
Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful. John 14:27
